a question from tumblr

I was asked a question last night over at tumblr that I'd like to share here.   I've included my own tidbits of advice that I posted as my answer there, but my real hope is that some of this blog's readers might have further advice . . .
Hi, I was wondering if you know any type one diabetics who are in the scene too, and how they cope with being a diabetic during play time. I personally am a type one and my master and I were just curious about others and how they might go about it.
 Anonymous
I am diabetic but Type II and only mildly, well controlled as long as diet is reasonable.  Serafina my slave/wife was severely diabetic during pregnancy.  Neither of those, however, compares to living with Type I, and I don’t know a wide enough circle of people to have a good friend with experience here.
What I can say is that any scene, even the mildest, tends to have the same effect on blood sugar as pretty strenuous exercise.  Before I was aware of my blood sugar problem, I was having issues with being a little bit shaky after serious play.
Now, I like to have some protein a little while before we play.  In this case there’s even a tantric ritual - a small meal consisting of high quality fish, meat, parched grains, and wine to be consumed before a tantric encounter - that would seem to serve well here too.  Staying well hydrated also seems to help.
- EDIT -
Because this is such an important topic, it's especially important to me that it's answered properly.  It turns out that I do "know" an experienced BDSM dominant who is a Type I diabetic.  Omega, a dominant for whom I have great respect from reading (at the Power Exchange) and a little personal correspondence, is a Type I diabetic.

Here's the comment left here by mouse - his sweet, kind, and lovely submissive . . .

Dear Sir,

Omega is a type one diabetic, has been all his life. What he does is monitor his blood sugar frequently during play. He would often plan the day around the insulin injection. He would often, now that mouse considers it, take a short play break at appropriate times to eat something, check blood sugar or whatever. He always kept things he might need, candy, juice or cookies along with cheese or other types of fruit handy in our playroom. He would always eat good protein before and sometimes after play.

We never had too many issues during prolong hard play -- or at least that mouse would notice. After hard play or heavy use, he often would need time to rest...often that was while mouse was in the cage (when we used it).

Safety always did come first, mouse was never bound in a way that she truly couldn't escape from if needed.

Hugs,
mouse

a cross post . . .

I suppose there are at least two ways to interpret the title, one of them being that I'm angry.  I assure you that despite featuring eyes with tears in them as it's image, this post is far more complex, and has nothing to do with any kind of real anger.

It's x-posted from tumblr, where Serafina and I also blog.

Master to Serafina

My darling Serafina desires to serve me perfectly.
Humans aren’t perfect.
She cries too if she’s fallen short …
One or twice, watching the display, I’ve gotten hard.  Very hard.  Urgently.
This is the first time I’ve shared that fact.  I’m a little ashamed that real crying could have such a visceral effect.  Perhaps it simply revolved around knowing how desperately she wants to please me, but, I also know it’s source could be darker.
Dominants are complex and less than perfect too.

Serafina to Master

I do not expect you to be perfect as I know how imperfect I am.  And, yes my goal is to follow and serve you so that you will be happy with me.  When the tears begin I am basically undone, and ready to retreat into oblivion.  When you get angry with me, unless I know fully well how and why I earned it, it makes me feel unworthy.  Even if you express just the smallest measure of disappointment, it affects me deeply with a resolve to do better next time or fix it right away.
I am supper sensitive…when my boys were little one of them would do his own thing regardless of punishments or discipline used.  What he was forbidden to do he would get right back where he’d left off.  The other was so tuned in to me that all I had to look at him and he would literally wither.  He seldom needed further correction.  I am by far as sensitive and more.
There is no darker side, unless something triggers a flash-back.  At that time I just need you to draw me in very close and hold me.  Allow me cry a bit, or fill you in on what is going on, so we can continue, perhaps with a bit different activity, which is what you have done in the past.

Spiritual BDSM on the Interwebs

Would you'd like to learn even more about our exploration of Spiritual BDSM?

Perhaps you want to share more of our journey through love, devotion and surrender?

Can't get enough of Michael and Serafina? (this one could easily tip into unhealthy obsession - been there done that - just don't go there, ok?)

Our friends and family, as well as assorted acquaintances, former lovers, buddies, pals, girlfriends, boyfriends,  and last but certainly not least, our readers (really anybody but one of our stalkers - you know who you are) are all welcome to keep up with  the folks behind SpiritualBDSM.com wherever we have a presence on these wonderful Interwebs.

We are doing our best to make that easy . . .

  2. Spiritual BDSM on Twitter
  3. Spiritual BDSM Facebook Page
  4. Michael Samadhi on Facebook
  5. Serafina Samadhi on Facebook
  6. Spiritual BDSM on Picasa
Now please realize that I'm an old geezer, having turned two score and eight years of age earlier this year, so some of this newfangled technology is still a little bit foreign.  That's much more the case for Twitter than it is for Facebook, Picasa or Tumblr.

Facebook I know too well.  I got talked into playing Mafia Wars on Facebook back when the game was first released.  It took me a while before I realized what a tremendous waste of time that game can become, I had a character built up to level 2000+.   Eventually, realizing I'd never write if I continued to play, I swore off Mafia Wars and deleted the account.

C'est la guerre!

Tumblr is intuitive even for the technologically challenged, I've got no real problems there either.  For months now I've been following the Gucci Slut and Lil' Miss Spanky Pants and a couple of other tumbloggers.

Picasa is automatically linked to my original blogger account, so that part of the setup couldn't be easier.  I do feel a little chagrined to admit, however, that it took me a month of blogging before I realized Picasa was where my blogger pictures were being uploaded, or that I already had an account there. Doh!

Although the majority of words are obviously enough in my native tongue, theoretically that is English, some posts on Twitter are beyond simple intuitive comprehension.  When it seems like every fifth letter is an @ or a # - that's when I start to zone out and go into Charlie Brown mode - "Blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah, BLAH!"
