Self talk matters- A lot!
Sometimes when I feel I have failed at something I go into self-hatred. Master has noticed my predisposition and I now have an edict that forbids me to continue destructive behavior. Yes I am aware that there are some who carry that behavior by cutting or otherwise harm themselves physically. When we speak self-debasing things about ourselves, we are doing as much, if not more damage, because it is not as apparent. Therefore it can do far more harm, and ultimately destroy us.
serafina,
ReplyDeleteOmega has a strict rule against that kind of thing too. He doesn't tolerate it well at all...and we all know that mouse goes down that path often enough to cause him a lot of worry at times. It's gotten better recently. Might blog about it...
Hugs,

Serafina and Michael: You raise a very important point. Destructive thoughts really have no value at all. They harm the mind and the body. If you try to adopt a thought of "All is well" even if it is not, you can create the space in your mind to look at whatever has gone wrong in a much more productive way. That's what I am working on anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think the key here is to recognize that mistakes (probably rather small mistakes in the scheme of things, I suspect) are all right. This was a big part of the cognitive behavior therapy I undertook - to accept that mistakes WILL happen and that is okay. Once you look at them in that way you can train your mind not to be so harsh on yourself.
It's lovely that Michael is helping you with this. I think that is D/s working most productively.
Kind regards.
